So, I'm posting from work. It's been quite the interesting day. With the command shrinking here, we now have alot of excess crap here in the building. That's turning out to be a good thing. We've slowly been converting the office to give it a more homey feel. We pilfered a couch from one of the foyer in the building. No one ever uses the couch, so who not? Hell, most people don't even notice it's existence. Our next task is the big screen TV. We have one located that isn't in use....in fact it's still in the box. After that, we are gonna split the cable in the gym so we can have cable tv here in the office. There are also rumors of a Wii, PS3, and XBOX 360 appearing soon. We are also going to get wireless internet here, one way or another. Worst case on that will be me setting up one of the military grade antennas on my house along with a milspec wireless bridge to transmit my wireless signal to the building from my house. It's been fun so far. We've all been running around this building like a band of ninjas. I just with this were a permanent situation. The bosses are cool....heck, they are the ones instigating all of this.

On another topic, I had a good time at Kris Kinder. I spent most of the morning, quite a bit of the afternoon, and part of the evening talking with the Goddess. I also hung out with Natalie for a while. She ended up starting to work on a preprint Torse scroll and seemed to enjoy that. She said that she only started because she thought I was too busy to talk. :( I'm never to busy to talk. I was also told by the Goddess to demand prayers and a sacrifice from her priestess. Of course the priestess asked if I were the sacrifice. heh. I found that Natalie (among others) was fond of Puppy Chow. Vincent even asked why I didn't share it during court, but It was earmarked for someone else, and I couldn't just give it away. Anyway, I offered to make some for Natalie and give it to her at the next event I see her at. She decided to make me something as well for the next event.

Speaking of court, it sucked. I had these drops of cold water that kept dripping on my back....much to Helena's amusement. At one point I even saw her face glazed over with the expression of no one being home...you know, that dazed look. I felt bad for her friend Belle. This was her second event and her second long court (2 hours is BS). I think she's been scarred for life now.
There was also talk about Constantia's dress....more importantly the pearls. Helena was very impressed and quite taken with them. I had to agree. That was some rockin bead work.

Oh, and a former friend/gf was giving me dirty looks most of the day......probably cause I was hanging with some very pretty girls.....lol. What did I ever see in her.

I also felt a little bad Sunday. I didn't realize that Kiera needed help moving. If I'd have know, I would have gotten blitzed at the post revel, passed out at the revel, then gone to help her move Sunday. It's not so much that I feel bad for not helping....I mean come on, I don't even live close......I felt bad because barely anyone who lives up that way helped. Oh, and I still feel a bit bad for not helpng Yukiko move.....that probably has a bit to do with it too.

So, it's back to work time.

Well, a lot has happened in the last few weeks. I started back to work. It has been immensely boring and sad, yet satisfying. I'll explain. I'm happy being back, because I am away from the house during the day and have free time at work. I'm bored for the same reason....I have no mission. It's sad, because that place has become a ghost town...and Friday was the last day for the remaining few. It's down to five of us from back in the day.

The Detachment from my unit that was with us in Afghanistan returned Thursday night. I met them at the airport to welcome them back. It was nice to see them returned safely. On that same vein, the care package I'm putting together is starting to take shape, even though people in the Barony don't really seem to care. It pisses me off to no end, all the resistance I get. All they have to do is go spend like 2 bucks on some cookies or something, but to ask them to do that is like asking Pavel or Wulfric to accept Rapier's adoption in Calontir. I'm the one putting out all the money here.....shipping, all the home cooked items.....hell I just spent nearly $170 on baking supplies. But then I actually care......probably because they are my troops. Ok, so I'm done ranting. Now I'll talk about what I'm making them.

I'm doing a fuck-ton (actual measurement) of Chex Mix......4 different kinds. We'll have Cheesy Ranch, Original, Moroccan Crunch, and Puppy Chow (or Muddy Buddies). Then I'm making some cookies. I was going to make oatmeal cookies, but decided not to. I'm doing Chocolate Chip, another kind of Chocolate Chip (involving cake mix), and Snickerdoodles. :) If I have some extra, I'll bring it to Kris Kinder. I'm gonna start making the Chex Mix tomorrow, but I'm waiting on the cookies until Tuesday.

Then there's the event I've been asked to help with in July....the 3rd to be exact. I've had a lot of good ideas, but there is one that I'm keeping under my belt. If this event comes to fruition, then everyone will find out what it is when court is held at the end. :) I just want it to be a surprise, because it's really cool. I may tell select people, as long as they tell no one else. I'd hate to have to kill people. Anyway, the concept of the event is one I can get behind. It's a support the troops event with a TFT concept. Come to the event, bring a care package item, we send the packages to the troops. To bad the 89th isn't still a 2-star command.....I just had another idea.....plotting......

I will make sure one of the units that gets one of these care packages will be my unit. I found out recently that the group leaving in March will have 3 of the people I deployed with in it. These guys will have been back maybe 9 months and their going out the door again. Granted they volunteered, but still... There are some many good friends going with this group that I feel guilty not going with them. I catch myself, on occasion, thinking of volunteering also....but I quickly talk myself out of it. I know it would do me no good. It's just guilt.

Ok, so I'm done now. I'll write again at some point in the near future.

So, I'm back at work. I sense that this will suck. I've been bored since I got here and there's no end in sight. I'll have to find something to keep me occupied.

I didn't sleep well last night. I knew I wouldn't because of how late I'd been getting to sleep recently. I doubt that will be a problem tonight cause I'm really tired.

And I'm stalkable at work now using the location link above. ;)

Well, we had fun at TFT. Martino won the tournament. There was a lot of fighting....over 100 pepole entered. The Godess was there with her usual blond friend ( I really need to learn her name). They also brought a new girl. We discussed the setup of pavillions, among other things.

There was some more, but we are on our way home and I'm too tired to keep typing. Thank God I'm not driving. ;)

So, I keep reminding myself that I actually have to go back to work Monday. I'm kinda torn about it. It's been nice being able to do my own thing.......to go and do what I like...to have an open schedule. On the other hand, I've been kinda bored during the day. What I'm really worried about is that I'll be even more bored at work since I don't really have a job to do. I may be on facebook and LJ even more now.

I will also have to get a hair cut and shave on a regular basis. No more beard. Honestly, I can do without the beard. I do miss my long hair, but I can live without it. Though I'm not sure what looks better, military trim or now. So, I will probably have really short hair at TFT.

The saddest part is how burnt out I am on the military. I'm just tired of the BS, the conflicting weekends, the deployments, etc. I'm even tired of the uniforms. The Army just can't stop screwing them up.

I'm looking forward to TFT. I don't think I'll be able to stay for the post revel. I'd have to find a Vatavian with extra car space. Plus, I'd have to find some crash space. It's kinda disappointing, but I'll live. Who knows, I might get lucky.

So, I'm running later than usual.  I realized I hve more to do today than I originally thought.  I need to hit the grocery store, cook, clean the kitchen, etc.  I also need to get into my storage unit to get the battery charger for my motorcycle.  I have so many unfinished or almost finished projects.  I guess it's time to start making lists again.  Oh, and I should ride my bike......and fix the three bikes I just got.  Wow.....crazy.

I'm gonna get started.

So, I decided that tagging my posts might actually be a good thing.  I had also decided I should 'declassify' my posts from Iraq in 2005.  So, I started reading them as I was tagging them and was mortified.  I guess I had blocked how utterly shitty my time there was.  There is no way I will ever 'declassify' those posts.  It took me forever to tag them too.

I'm also rebuilding my music collection through peer-to-peer downloading (dead hard drives suck).  Don't worry, I do own the tunes I'm getting.  It's just easier than ripping the CDs into mp3s, especially since all my CDs are in storage.

Oh, and I just ate the last of the chili.

So, I decided to be productive today.  I bought wood last month to make a pell, but was distracted.  Today I decided to start making it a reality and after some time, I now have the beginnings of a pell.  It's upright, but it still lacks leg supports, arms and padding.  I could finish today but the neighbors are home from work, and I don't like making lots of noise when they are home out of courtesy.  I will finish it tomorrow.

I still have much to do.  I need to hit the auto parts store for hose clamps so i can attach the basket hilt to my sword.  I need to finish taping my pole-arm.  I also added another coat of paint to the helm.  Late tonight I'll sand it and give it one more coat.  I need to re-rivet my straps on my armor and strap and pad my vambraces and make some thighs.

While I was browsing the web, I noticed this.  It is a portable field armor stand that can be quickly setup and torn down.  I think I'm gonna make a mod to it, though.  What I'm thinking is attaching eye-lags or something big enough for a banner pole to fit in.  Then it would be an armor stand and a portable hole.  It would be easy enough to make.  So, tomorrow, it's off to Lowe's again.  I need another 2X4 and some hardware.  ;)

Well, I just got back from the laundromat. I haven't got a washer and dryer yet cause Ive been too busy (and I'm just not that worried about it). People there are quite interesting. It's quite interesting to people watch there.

I am disappointed, I may have to get rid of some of the clothes that I had in storage while I was gone. There is an interesting odor that I'm having problems getting rid of. I guess I'll go to the store tomorrow to see if I can find something to take it out. For now, I will be at home catching up on True Blood. I do have to say the redheaded vampire Jessica is HOT.

Oh, and she says I need more friends on this thing, but I don't think so.

Now, I won't have to wait to get home to write my thoughts. And I can integrate pics from the phone.....I think. I'll try it now. Here's my wood.....hmmmm guess not. I'll have to play with it a bit.

So, I am, as the title says, in-transit. I'm out of Arifjan and am currently in Ali Al Salem. I will be flying outta here soon (can give the exact date) and will be joining the unit in Afghanistan. I can't wait.

So, it still hurts when I breathe. Other than that, I am fine. The doc said that even that should go away in a week or so.

Well, I'm off to continue to be bored. The MWR (Morale Welfare and Recreation) here has movies you can check out and watch on private TVs. It's kinda nice not having to pay anything.

Hopefully the next time I write, it will be from Bagram.

Later All.

Oct. 7th, 2008 @ 11:50 am Recovering
Current Mood: bored
Well, it's almost been a week, and I'm still stuck in Arifjan. I am still recovering, although I feel well enough to leave. I have to wait for the doc to clear me at my next appointment.

I remember now all the things I hate about Kuwait. One of the things is the chow halls. There is a certain stench to them. They just make me lose my appetite. Yeah, the same stench exists in Iraq, but to a lesser degree. I do wonder about Afghanistan. How will it be there.

Another is the sky. Looking at the horizon, all you see in all directions is a dust cloud. It extends from the horizon all the way up to about 25 deg elevation (guessing here). Seeing it just kind of makes you think....reminds would be the better term......that you are living in a big dust cloud.....breathing it in like smog.

Another is the bathrooms. You walk in and the AC is always on full blast, even in the middle of the night. So, you get to freeze while you do anything. The water, however still has two settings hot and boiling.

Lastly, I hate seeing the people who hang out here in this Garrison environment and act as if they are in a "Combat Zone". Them with their daily BBQs and parties. Them with their civilian clothes. Never hearing a mortar or an IED. Never hearing shots fired in anger. We actually had a briefer try to justify why Kuwait should be a combat zone. He said that since the beginning there has been the possibility of spillover violence from Iraq. Whatever. I think that both Kuwait and Qatar shouldn't be classified as combat zones. These fools don't even carry their weapons.

Anyway, I'm feeling better. I can't wait to get the hell outta here. You all have fun.
About this Entry
Oct. 1st, 2008 @ 08:23 pm Ugh.
Current Mood: exhausted
So, I made it to Kuwait. We left on the 27th and made it here on the 28th. That's pretty much when things went to hell. We found out that, instead of going to a camp in Kuwait, that we were suppose to get right on another plane and fly to Afghanistan. So, that kind of sucked. However, around 4 in the morning, I was struck with extreme abdominal pain. Once I realized that it was there to stay, I went to the TMC (Troop Medical Clinic). After hours and hours, they finally drugged me up and sent me to a real hospital. There, they did an ultrasound on me and found my gallbladder to be jacked up. So, a day and a half later, I found myself heading for surgury, while, my unit left without me. Apparently, the doctors were surprised that it hadn't been hurting me longer. So, I get to spend another week in Kuwait trying to heal. It sucks. I can't wait to get outta here.

Anyway, so that's why there's been no word from me. I'm not sure how often I can check my email, mostly because it sucks to walk over here to do it.

Miss you all.
About this Entry

Current Mood: infuriated
In all my years of service I have never before seen such a blatant disregard for ones troops. Never before have I witnessed such a lack of care for one's soldiers from a couple of supposed leaders. Who and what might I be talking about? Well, I have absolutely no problem telling you. First, I am talking about both my First Sergeant and my Sergeant Major. All I can say about it is, WOW.

Where to begin. I'll start this with a bit of a back history. Our First Sergeant had got to be somewhat crazy. I never noticed his strange quirk of sudden anger until Ft Dix. We are offloading a bus, and as soon as we get off, he's yelling at us and throwing our bags at us, telling us to get of the bus and get our stuff off, as if we are in some major rush. And, of course, the SGM is right there with him, doing it too. After the bags are downloaded, we all just sat there for about 10 minutes before we were told we could go to chow. Most of us though, why were we in such a rush, and why did they think they needed to yell at us as if we were in Basic Training?

Since, there have been many, many, many instances of this kind of stupidity from our leaders. We don't get it. Most recently, Myself and two other soldiers are coming out of the MWR to get on the van. No word that there was any rush. And, yes, as good NCOs, we made sure it was ok to go there. They start yelling for us to hurry as we are walking up. Mind you, we were walking at a good pace. Not running, but hen, why should we? So, after getting on the van, they have these pissed looks on their faces and pulled out as if we were leaving pit row in a Nascar race. Our 1SG, the one who said we could go, asks us in a stern, pissed voice who we told that we were going to the MWR. We were like, um.....Top, you said we could. After that, they were like, oh...... Then they started joking around and smiling.

This morning, though, takes the cake. First, one of my friends stopped, as she was getting on the van, to salute our Commander. The SGM jumps in her shit because she stopped. The Commander asked what she'd done to piss him off. She said, she'd done nothing, and she thought he just wasn't getting enough sleep. The SGM tells her that she's walking a fine line. The Commander said he'd talk to the 1SG and see if he'd stop keeping the SGM up late. Now understand, the Commander was joking.....as was my friend. The SGM actually has the nerve to try to censor our Commander by saying "SIR!" in a voice that basically said he'd better stop. Now who's walking a fine line?

The Icing to all this was, what I have to say, the most blatantly idiotic thing I have ever seen done by a supposed leader. Five of us were walking up to the van after chow (one of them an officer). The doors were open, and, as I was getting ready to get in, the 1SG decides he's gonna start pulling off to make us rush, and were not talking slowly either. Note, I said the doors were open. It was, literaly, my fast reflexes that kept the door from smacking my leg and face. No, joke, we are talking maybe an inch. I wasn't the only one that almost got hit. The officer was just barely coming around from in front of the van when this happened. The van almost hit him. Now, was there any kind of apology made? No. The SGM and 1SG actually tried to justify it by saying that we were taking our sweet time and that they had places to be.

My reaction to all of this is, if you need us to be somewhere and a certain time, tell us. We will be there. If you drop us at chow and don't say anything, we aren't gonna come running to the van. If we know we need to be somewhere, we will be there.

It's sad when your top leaders suck outright. Not only do ours micromanage, they keep info close to the chest. It's like pulling teeth to find out what's going on. And, if they are doing it to feel big and mighty and to yell.....like Drill Sergeants, maybe they should have hopped on the trail. Wait, what am I thinking, neither can handle stress well enough to be Drill Sergeants.

Once again, I pay for my safe return

So, the internet has been down around here since Friday. Shortly after that, I lost cell service. So, when I say disconnected.....I mean it. Finally, today, our internet has come back up, hence the post. So, while I have the level of service I'd have if I were en-route to Afghanistan, I'm not there yet. I will post when I get there. If you would like a phone call when I get there, let me know. It may take a bit, but I'll get you one.

Keeping busy this weekend was tough. It was spent mostly watching movies and walking all over this God forsaken place.

I miss everyone. I can't wait to get back.

To that someone in particular who knows who she is:
Yes, just in case you are wondering, I still miss and love you alot.

Well, I've had a few long days. It's hard to believe that it has been a week since I left on pass. WOW. Time is scary sometimes.....actually it's outright terrifying. It seems like I was just doing all of this...the deploying, that is. It seems like yesterday that I was falling for the girl. And it seems like only a moment ago I was in Wichita. The crazy part is that I'm not even having fun. :( Hopefully I stored enough good memories over the last 5 months to make it through, cause I'm going to miss alot of them while I'm gone.

So, anyway, my focus is strong. I've been trying to keep myself focused on work.......and, for the most part, it works. I do have the mornings......in the blurred space between my mind and reality as I wake from my dreams......where I am unfocused and confused. I have the night, where my mind is alive.....burning from the all of the stimulation and energy......stuck with the constant thinking....as I try to shut it off. Then there are those moments in the day where, for some reason, I hit a pause....a hiccup.....where, my mind out of my control, takes me to places that I'm trying avoid during the day. But, other than those, I am good. Luckily, I have good friends here, and we try to keep each other focused.

Soon....very soon I will be finally writing from my place of duty. I'm looking forward to it. I will be sure to blog that after it happens. Other than that, I'm going to try to not blog as much. My private blog will say why. But, when there are interesting things happening, yes, they will be written.

So, for now, I will get off of this thing and try to get to the gym.
